Sam led a simple life wife, kids, and a house in the suburbs. Then the unthinkable happened. In a world over run by the living dead, Sam must find a way to survive, but soon learns that zombies are the least of his problems. In this, his first book, R. Chris Yates takes you on a journey of madness, loves lost and found, and one mans journey to save the people he loves.

The Swamp R Chris Yates Books

A very interesting short novel about the zombie apocalypse, and a very strong showing for a first time author.

In the aftermath of the zombie apocalypse, Sam struggles to survive. When we first meet him, he's living alone in the swamp, in a place he and his brother agreed to meet in the event of a catastrophe. Sam is struggling to survive in a world that has become foreign to him, and to find his loved ones among the wreckage.

This was a bit of a page turner for me. I'm not big on zombie stories, but this one caught my interest and kept me reading, Maybe it's because this is the story of the human struggle in the aftermath of disaster and the ensuing lawlessness, and that is what hooked me, because frankly I might have passed this by if it were blood, guts & gore.

Well done Mr. Yates! Looking forward to more from you.

The Swamp R Chris Yates Books Reviews

Very good read. Would highly recommend this book.
I enjoyed this book. Not your usual zombie story. This was more about the living people and the trials they face. I liked the characters. The few typos did not distract me from the story. Well told and flowed nicely. I recommend this book to end of the world fans.
I'm glad I don't have to go to work tomorrow since I stayed up so late reading. Yes, there are some editing errors that were not caught, but it does not distract from the story. Very well written and a compelling tale. Highly recommended. Likeable characters that were well developed quickly.
This book held my interest! I love zombie books and this one had a bit of a twist!! Some minor typos but not a big deal to me! Love the characters, fast paced and a couple of OMG moments with the ending being one of them!! No spoiler alerts here just read it! I anxiously await the next book!!
I didn't know this was a Zombie book when I purchased it, and while they are not a genre of book that I like to read, this wasn't a bad read, it covered the characters and players in the book not so much the zombies and it was a read that flows smoothly with it's telling. The plot was a little slow to start but quickly picked up and you could almost see these people and what happens to them actually happening, no super heroes just interesting people dealing with an end of time type scenario believable but adventurous.
The author really knows how to tell a story but the book is in desperate need of proof reading. I could imagine the author telling the story around a campfire and it helped me get through all the typos in the book. However, the book can be hard to follow because of switching back and forth between first person and second person, misspellings, name changes, etc. But after finishing the book, I found myself thinking about the story, reminiscing over parts of it and wanting to know what happens next.
I really enjoyed this book. I thought that most of the characters were a little flat and some of the dialogue felt a little stale or rushed, but I enjoyed the book a lot.

But, then there's the editing. Wow. Several times of characters being called by the wrong names, including once where the main character, Sam, was called a name that doesn't appear anywhere else in the book. I got really confused a few times over who was who. There are innumerable instances of subject/verb disagreement.

I enjoyed the book, though, even with the editing errors. They were enough to be distracting, but not enough to not enjoy the story.
